Jaws 50th Anniversary Advent Calendar

Amity Island, Dressed for the Holidays

Door one holds the shark itself wearing a Santa hat, a wrapped gift clenched between its teeth. A few doors later, a snowman appears with a streak of red at its base — a small, dark joke rather than an accident — and by another door a wooden sign reads “Welcome to Amity Island, Closed for Xmas.” This JAWS advent calendar takes one of the most tense, sun-drenched films ever made and drops it, deliberately, into the wrong season.

Fifty Years Since the Shark Didn’t Work

JAWS first hit theaters on June 20, 1975, and this set marks the anniversary that followed a full year later, in 2026, after the film returned to theaters for its 50th in 2025. The production behind it has become as famous as the movie itself: the mechanical shark — nicknamed Bruce after Steven Spielberg’s lawyer, Bruce Ramer — was mistakenly built for freshwater use and broke down constantly in the corrosive ocean salt, forcing a then-27-year-old Spielberg to reconceive the entire film around suggestion rather than a fully visible monster. That workaround, born entirely out of mechanical failure, is widely credited as the reason the film became as effective as it did — John Williams’ two-note theme and a mostly hidden shark did more work than a fully rendered creature ever could have. This calendar’s cast leans into exactly that history, right down to Bruce’s own Santa hat cameo.

Faces From the Film, Not Just the Shark

Alongside the shark, the set includes figures modeled on Amity’s police chief, the grizzled shark hunter, and the young marine biologist, along with the film’s doomed fishing boat, the Orca. A megaphone reading “Shark Attack!,” a gold shark-tooth ornament, and a figure recreating an early beach-attack victim round out a set that spans the film’s most tense moments rather than sticking to safe, generic shark imagery. Several figures wear Santa hats or hold wrapped presents, keeping the collection tethered to its Christmas format even while pulling from a film that has nothing to do with the holiday.

Displaying the Full Set

This falls under JULIEDIARY’s confirmed advent calendar spec: 24 individually sealed compartments inside a sturdy printed box, opened one per day. Each figure is a high-quality piece with a small hanging loop, so pieces can go straight onto a tree as they’re revealed, or stay grouped together as a year-round shelf display for anyone building out a film collection.

Key Details

The calendar houses 24 individually sealed compartments, each revealing a differently themed JAWS figure or prop, spanning the film’s main characters, the Orca boat, and holiday-costumed versions of the shark itself.
