Los Angeles Lakers Honor King 2026 Martin Luther King Jr. Day T-Shirt
What’s Printed Where
Black cotton, white block letters, one line of gold script cutting across them: “HONOR KING” stacks down the front with Dr. King’s own signature laid over the word “KING,” while the back carries the longer message, “THE TIME IS ALWAYS RIGHT TO DO WHAT IS RIGHT,” with “RIGHT” blown up larger than the words around it. No color beyond black, white, and gold — the design leans entirely on scale and spacing to make its point.
A Sermon Line the League Keeps Coming Back To
The back panel’s phrase comes straight from Dr. King’s 1965 address “Remaining Awake Through a Great Revolution,” where he argued that timing was never the excuse for inaction — the time is always right to do what is right. It’s the same line the NBA has paired with “Honor King” on tribute shirts nearly every January since the league began observing the holiday in 1986, and this Los Angeles Lakers Honor King T-shirt puts that pairing behind one specific franchise rather than the league as a whole.
Part of a January Tradition
Teams wear versions of this design during warmups in the run-up to the league’s MLK Day slate, so the words end up on national television before they end up on anyone’s closet shelf. Owning the fan version means carrying that same gesture past the arena — into the stands, into a living room during tip-off, into whatever someone’s wearing on a Monday morning in January when the actual holiday lands.
Built for More Than One Wear
The cut runs relaxed through the chest and sleeves, closer to a warmup shirt’s fit than a fitted retail tee, with enough room to layer a hoodie or team jacket over it once the weather turns. The high-quality cotton base holds its print and shape through repeat washing, which matters for a shirt meant to stay in rotation well past the holiday it references. Worn with joggers and low-top sneakers it reads as easy gameday wear; thrown under an open varsity jacket it works just as well as a standalone streetwear piece.
Key Details
This MLK Day 2026 shirt pairs the Lakers with the league’s long-running Honor King design, printed in white and gold on a black, high-quality cotton base cut with a relaxed fit through the body and sleeves. The front centers King’s signature over bold “HONOR KING” lettering above small team and league marks, and the back expands into the full sermon line across the shoulders in oversized type. It’s made to hold up to regular washing and daily wear, so it functions as much as an everyday layer as a one-day tribute piece — built for anyone who’d rather keep Dr. King’s words visible year-round than packed away until the next January comes around.
