Up the Villa Aston Villa Advent Calendar

A Different Piece of Villa Park Every Day

Door one holds the club crest, the rampant claret-and-gold lion mid-roar on a shield. Later doors hold a matchday ticket stub, a scale model of a red double-decker bus with “VILLA” across the side, and a miniature version of the Holte End stand itself. This Aston Villa advent calendar treats the whole set as a scrapbook of matchday details rather than 24 identical badges in different poses.

A Club Born in a Church, Not a Boardroom

Aston Villa’s founding has an unusually specific origin: the club was formed on 21 November 1874 by members of a Wesleyan chapel cricket club in Handsworth, part of what’s now Birmingham — the “Villa” in the name traces directly back to that original Villa Cross Wesleyan Church cricket team, which is why the calendar leans so heavily on the 1874 date across its imagery. The club went on to become one of English football’s genuine pioneers: a Villa director, William McGregor, founded the world’s first organized football league in 1888, and the club’s rampant lion crest has been tied to Villa since close to its founding, with the earliest documented version appearing in a matchday program in 1906. That lion still anchors the crest today, carrying the “Prepared” motto associated with the club’s earliest heraldry.

Villa Park’s Own Landmarks

Several pieces in the set reference Villa Park specifically rather than the club in the abstract. The Holte End — one of English football’s most recognizable stands, and a name synonymous with the loudest section of the ground — appears as its own miniature, alongside a general stadium silhouette and an entrance gate ornament. A silver trophy nods to Villa’s European Cup and multiple League Championship wins from the club’s earlier era of dominance, when it held the record for most English top-flight titles for the better part of a century.

Displaying the Set

This falls under JULIEDIARY’s confirmed advent calendar spec: 24 individually sealed compartments inside a sturdy printed box, opened one per day. Each ornament is high-quality and finished in the club’s claret and blue, with a small hanging loop so pieces can go straight onto a Christmas tree as they’re revealed, or stay arranged together on a display tray for anyone building out a season-long Villa collection rather than a one-time countdown.

Key Details

The calendar houses 24 individually sealed compartments, each revealing a different claret-and-blue ornament tied to Aston Villa, spanning the club crest, matchday items like a ticket stub and scarf, and Villa Park landmarks including the Holte End. It follows JULIEDIARY’s confirmed advent calendar construction, with a printed display box and high-quality ornaments built for tree or shelf display.
