Ghost Band Papa Emeritus Advent Calendar

Twenty-Four Popes, None of Them Real

Every figure behind these 24 doors wears some variation of a skull-painted face and a bishop’s mitre, but no two look quite alike — one holds a rose, another sits on a throne flanked by tiny masked figures, another stands mid-performance with a microphone in hand. This Ghost band advent calendar pulls its entire cast from one theatrical rock persona reinvented across more than a decade, rather than 24 unrelated characters.

One Frontman, Five Different Popes

Ghost’s frontman has never performed under his own name on stage. Since the band’s 2010 debut, Tobias Forge has appeared as a rotating cast of “Papa Emeritus” characters — a demonic anti-pope figure that’s been redesigned and replaced with each new album cycle, from Papa Emeritus I through IV, briefly reworked as Cardinal Copia in between, and most recently rebranded as Papa V Perpetua. Forge kept his identity as the person behind the mask a secret for years, only confirming it publicly in 2017 following a royalty dispute with former bandmates. Each version of the character has its own distinct look and backstory within the band’s internal lore — Papa III’s costume was reportedly inspired by an 18th-century Swedish king’s coronation outfit, while Cardinal Copia’s sharper, more mafia-inspired suit drew from Don Fanucci in The Godfather Part II. This set covers that full range rather than sticking to just one era.

The Nameless Ghouls Fill in the Rest

Alongside the various Papas, the set includes the band’s masked instrumentalists, known collectively as the Nameless Ghouls — anonymous, identically dressed musicians who’ve backed every incarnation of the frontman without ever revealing individual identities themselves. Their inclusion rounds out the set beyond just the lead character, giving the collection the same “clergy” structure the band uses to frame its whole stage persona, mixing horror-movie makeup with vestments borrowed from Catholic religious iconography, all played for theatrical effect rather than anything literal.

Displaying the Full Collection

This falls under JULIEDIARY’s confirmed advent calendar spec: 24 individually sealed compartments inside a sturdy printed box, opened one per day through December. Each figure is high-quality and hand-painted in fine detail, small enough to line up on a shelf or desk once revealed, and detailed enough to work as a standalone collectible for fans well past the countdown itself.

Key Details

The calendar houses 24 individually sealed doors, each revealing a different figure drawn from Ghost’s Papa Emeritus and Nameless Ghoul characters across the band’s various stage eras. It follows JULIEDIARY’s confirmed advent calendar construction, with a printed display box and high-quality, hand-painted figures built for shelf display.
